All that we are is the result of what we have thought; it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts.”
– Dhammapada
I’ve spent my whole life making things with my hands.
I’m Rohn Strong – somatic crochet practitioner, Ayurvedically informed wellness guide, published author, and crochet designer based in Raleigh, NC. My work lives at the intersection of slow craft, nervouse system regulation, and the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda.
For over a decade I’ve been designing crochet patterns that have reached makers around the world. I’m a published author of eight books across crochet, punch needle, and fiver arts, a former television personalist on PBS’s Knit and Crochet Now, and a designer for Lion Brand Yarn. My patterns are rooted in the belief that craft should feel meditative, accessible, and a beautiful – not stressful or intimidating.
Over time my path deepened into something more. Crochet became not just a practice of making but a practice of regulation – a way to quiet an overwhelmed nervous system, return to the body, and process what words sometimes can’t reach.
I began studying Ayurveda at the Ayurvedic Institute in Asheville, NC under the lineage of Dr. Vasant Lad, training toward a certification as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor and Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist. That training has changed everything about how I understand the body, the breath, and the rhythm of making.
Today I offer private somatic crochet sessions that blend intentional making, Ayurvedic constitutional wisdom, and nervous system regulation into a container designed for people whoa re overwhelmed, burned out, or simply craving a practice that feels good in their body. You don’t ned to know how to crochet to work with me. You just need to be ready to slow down.
When I’m not designing or seeing clients, I’m usually studying, writing my next book, studying yoga, and finding every excuse to put more yarn in my hands. I live and work in Raleigh, NC where I share dispatches on slow craft, Ayurvedic living, and the sacred rhythm of making on my Substack.
This space is for the mystics and the makers, the seekers and the stitchers. You’re all welcome here.
